French Foreign Legion 12th Pioneers Battalion pocket badge

12e Batallion de Pionniers insigne.
Created at Meknes in Morocco by using the 2e REI Sapper Pioneer Company (C.S.P.) commanded by Captain Pernin and the 5th Moroccan Pioneer Battalion, the unit formed together in Tunisia on the 13 October 1939 and the battalion was officially born.
The battalion had four companies, the 1st company was all legionnaires and the other companies mixed with legionnaires, war volunteers and Tirailleurs (Moroccan sharpshooters). The battalion was placed under the administration of the 1 REI and was responsible for road and defensive works in Southern Tunisia. The battalion was dissolved on the 16 April 1940 with the native troops joining the 56 North African Pioneer battalion and the Legionnaires were sent to the D.C.R.E.
The badge was created in 1940 and made by Drago Paris 25 R Beranger with Silver examples issued for officers.
