The Northern Brigade was for many years a major component of the Norway's defense, especially against the invasion of the Soviet Union. The 1992 defense study concluded that a changed threats did not justify having a full-time active brigade, and Brig N was put into mobilization status in 1995. Subdivisions then entered 6th Division. Not to be confused with today's Brigade Nord .
