OMON was a system of special police units of Federal Police within the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was created as the special forces of the Soviet police in 1988, and then played major roles in several armed conflicts. In modern context, the OMON were used more like riot police, or as a gendarmerie-like force. On 5 April 2016, the functions of OMON were taken over by the newly established National Guard of Russia.
Moscow Oblast is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). With a population of 7,095,120 (2010 Census) living in an area of 44,300 square kilometers (17,100 sq mi), it is one of the most densely populated regions in the country and is the second most populous federal subject. The Republic of Bashkortostan is a federal subject of Russia (a republic (state)). It is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Its capital is the city of Ufa. With population of 4,072,292 as of the 2010 Census, Bashkortostan is the most populous republic in Russia.
