Lukiskes Remand Prison
Lukiskes Remand Prison - one of the oldest prisons in Lithuania.
Russian Emperor Nicholas the Second, this ordinance prison institution started in the center of Vilnius, near the Lukiskes Square in 1901. Body has prepared a project architect G. Trambickis, construction engineers led by K. Kelčevskis. The office was given the name "Tiuremnyj Zamok (Prison Fortress).
Prison started in 1901 building on 6 September, and the interrogation building - 1902 25 July Prison building consisted of two wing-type structures for the installation of cameras vienvietėms, common camera body, office and stationery. Prison building is connected to the church building, but inside the prison - a Catholic chapel. Equipped with the latest and the synagogue.
Much attention has been given to the church structure, which consisted of five domes. Church of the façade was decorated with a fresco of St. Nicholas miracle. Church has taken on itself the same name - St. Nicholas Church miracle. Its interior is decorated with frescoes painted by famous Russian artists I. Trutnev, I. Prison fortress was built and opened in 1904. Czarist Russia was imprisoned in the fortress prison term not only criminals but also political figures, such as the Russian Bolshevik movement leader, F. Dzerzhinsk and former Israeli Prime-Minister of the State of M. Begin. After the Second World War, the Soviet occupation lasts, the name of the prison, about 1960 years back has been replaced. The official name became "Učreždenije OČ-12/36 (OC institution - 12/36). In 1991, after the restoration of Lithuanian independence, and changed the name of the institution. In 1992 she called "Vilnius Remand Prison, and in 2000 it was officially named" Lukiskes Remand Prison. The name of the office has remained to this day.
2003 Lukiskes Remand prison is included in the Lithuanian cultural properties registry list building complexes. The body was protected by the state historical architectural monument.
