The glowing shoulder tag was put into use in the- 1980s following an accident in which soldiers were run over by a hitchhiker,
But following the murders of Ilan Saadoun and Avi Sasports in- 1999, which were collected by Hamas on a hitchhiking trip, the soldiers were forbidden to ride hitchhikers and the glowing badges were no longer in use.
