The 39th motorized boat Engineer company was created on the 1st September 1951 and located at the port of Haiphong, the mission of the company was the transport of materials up the numerous waterways in Tonkin. The company was 216 strong including 107 Vietnamese personnel and was split into three sections including transport and command sections. The company operated five 50 Ton barges, one LCM (Landing Craft Mechanized) and a few 12 ton craft which were replaced with 18 ton craft in 1953. The 39th was mainly used in the Tonkin delta but they helped in the evacuation of Hoa Binh on the black river and also worked on the southern Delta and in the red river.
On the 1st October 1956 the company was dissolved.
The badge was created in 1952 by Captain Omnes commander of the 39th CEF. The badge is made by Drago Paris Nice 43 rue Olivier Metra and Drago Paris with silver examples issued for Officers and also locally made examples.
