The 4th CLY was formed on 27 September 1939 as a duplicate of the 3rd CLY.
Due to losses sustained, the two Sharpshooters regiments were amalgamated on 1 August 1944 at Carpiquet to form 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters).
